Kidman and Watts Have a Need
Source: Variety February 16, 2007

"Nip/Tuck" creator Ryan Murphy is firming plans to spend his hiatus directing Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts in Need, a thriller to be produced by Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal. Variety says independent financing is being mobilized for a late fall start.

Kidman and Watts, friends since they were young actresses in Australia, have been looking for a project to do together. The sexy thriller will cast them as archenemies: Watts will play a psychiatrist, Kidman the unstable patient who steals the shrink's husband.

Murphy has also just signed a multiyear deal worth $15 million that's so big, it spans three News Corp. entities: FX, 20th Century Fox TV and the Fox net. Under the deal, Murphy will stay on as showrunner for a fifth season of FX's top-rated "Nip/Tuck." At the same time, he'll exclusively develop series with 20th Century Fox.

I'm not sure how this will happen given that she's pregnant but:

Naomi Watts to Train Animal
Source: Variety March 12, 2007

Naomi Watts will topline First Look Pictures' adaptation of Amy Sutherland's "Kicked, Bitten and Scratched: Life and Lessons at the World's Premiere School for Exotic Animal Trainers."

Variety says Kristin Hahn and Dana Adam Shapiro will produce the project, developed as a romantic comedy; Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff are writing the script. David Rubin is in negotiations to produce.

Sutherland's book focuses on the year she spent with students at the Exotic Animal Training and Management Program at Moorpark College, where students learn how to communicate with animals such as camels, emus, baboons, cougars, wolves and snakes. Alumni hold posts at the world's top zoos, aquariums and sanctuaries or become trainers who work in television and film.

Watts will next be seen in Michael Haneke's Funny Games and David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter July 13, 2007

Naomi Watts has signed on to star opposite Clive Owen in The International, the action-thriller that Tom Tykwer is directing for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The plot centers on an obsessive Interpol agent (Owen) who spearheads an investigation into one of the world's most high-profile and powerful banking institutions in an attempt to expose them for worldwide arms brokering, corruption and murder. She's lining up lots of work considering she's about to pop out a baby. Let's hope the kid gets her looks and not Liev Schreiber's.

Naomi Watts on Funny Games and The Birds
Source: Edward DouglasSeptember 8, 2007

Aussie actress Naomi Watts stars with Viggo Mortensen in the upcoming crime-drama Eastern Promises from former master of horror David Cronenberg, and since Cronenberg's horror classic Scanners is in the process of being remade, we decided to ask Naomi Watts about her own upcoming horror remakes, one coming out this year and one still in development. First, she stars in Michael Haneke's English language remake of his horror-thriller Funny Games, which she told us about.

"It was interesting. I saw the original and it was intense, but Michael Haneke is a great filmmaker. I think his films will be remembered in 100 years to come. He's really trying to do something. We remade the film and what was interesting was that he wanted to do the exact same shots, so it was a great experience. He works from a very disciplined place. Everything's very worked-out, very structured, and that makes it a lot harder to be organic, because you've got so many notes in your head. Completely different style from the way David Cronenberg works."

And what about the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds that Naomi has been rumored to star in? "It's happening," she replied, "but I haven't read the script yet, but we're in talks, and I hope it works out. They're still working on it and making sure it's just right."

In the meantime, you can see Naomi in Cronenberg's Eastern Promises and read a full interview with her over on ComingSoon.net.

Source: Warner Independent Pictures September 14, 2007

Warner Independent Pictures has revealed the new trailer for writer/director Michael Haneke's Funny Games, starring Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, Brady Corbet and Devon Gearhart. It opens February 15.

In this provocative and brutal thriller, a vacationing family gets an unexpected visit from two deeply disturbed young men. Their idyllic holiday turns nightmarish as they are subjected to unimaginable terrors and struggle to stay alive. The film is a remake of Haneke's own acclaimed 1997 film.

The busiest new mommy in show business:

Naomi Watts joins the Half-Blood Prince
BY: Actress Archives | Wednesday, July 25, 2007
ADVERTISEMENT
After casting almost every actor in the British Empire in the Harry Potter films, the producers of the sixth adventure are going Aussie, hiring Naomi Watts to play Narcissa Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which will start filming with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and many more this fall. Naomi Watts is currently on break, pregnant with Liev Schreiber's baby, but she won't be needed on the set of Half-Blood Prince until September, right after she gives birth. Naomi Watts will play the wife of Lucius Malfoy and mother of Draco Malfoy and the sister of Bellatrix LeStrange and Andromeda Tonks, and the cousin of Sirius Black. Got that? Good.

According to Cinematical, Narcissa Malfoy is described as a tall, slim, pale, blue-eyed blonde. Naomi Watts sounds like another case of perfect casting to us in a franchise that has gotten it right from film one. Narcissa Malfoy made her first appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the book, but didn't make it to the big screen. Apparently, she plays a role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as well, so it seems likely that the producers would lock down Naomi Watts for that film too, but that wasn't officially announced.

In other great casting news, Joseph Fiennes and Stuart Townsend have signed on for Half-Blood Prince, but the roles they will play are still unclear. Joseph Fiennes is the brother of Ralph Fiennes, who has played Voldemort in the last several Harry Potter films.

The 38-year-old Naomi Watts broke through in Flirting and Tank Girl but really found a second career in 2000 with Mulholland Drive. Since then, Naomi Watts has appeared in The Ring, Le Divorce, 21 grams, We Don't Live Her Anymore, The Assassination of Richard Nixon, I Heart Huckabees, Ellie Parker, The Ring Two, Stay, King Kong, Inland Empire, and The Painted Veil, She has long been rumored to take the Tippi Hedren part in Michael Bay's remake of The Birds, but Half-Blood Prince could put that role in jeopardy. She's already finished shooting David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel and Michael Haneke's Funny Games with Tim Roth. Naomi Watts rules.
