Stargate.. in any fashion

Postby Summ » Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:36 pm

Heya folks. I was just wondering if any of you out there are fellow Stargate wubbers ^^. I watched the movie and am currently working my way through the 9 seasons of SG1. Awesome universe, if you ask me, although it does have a few incongruences here and there. There is no doubt it's an american show. the heroism and the 'right man in the right place at the right time' or complete opposite are just a constant in the show.
Stargate Atlantis, the spin off from the first SG1, seems rather promising and entertaining. Both are good shows and a very good investment of time, if one is into this sort of thing. By now people should know that I'm into sci fi, so it shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone that I mention these :P.

Not really a fan, but I did note that Claudia Black (Farscape) was in a few episodes this season.

You should, Brian. It's a bit slow to kick in. Season 1 is a bit cheap. The actors still need to ambient and learn to know each other, but the pace soon picks up and S2 is already great. I'm in S5 now and it's intense. Very good entertainment.

I'll take a look at the DVDs after Halloween (I review haunted houses so my schedule is full for now) along with Farscape.

Is anyone watching the new season? If so has Morena Baccarin started her role as a villain yet?

I don't know when SG 1 begins, I don't watch it. The SciFi Network shows reruns of SG 1 in it's regualr timeslot so unless you actually follow it you won't know when seasons begin or end. I don't want to see any episodes but the ones with Baccarin in them. I've already seen enough Scifi to last a lifetime, I don't want to start watching any additional shows.

Devlin Announces Plans for Stargate Sequels
Source: Blake Wright July 20, 2006

Producer-writer Dean Devlin confirmed today at the San Diego Comic-Con that he is in talks with MGM Studios to shoot parts two and three to his original 1994 sci-fi film Stargate, which starred Kurt Russell and James Spader.

Devlin, speaking to the Comic-Con crowd about his next production, the World War I pilot drama Flyboys, said he has signed a multi-picture deal with MGM and wants the completion of his originally envisioned "Stargate" trilogy to be considered for those slots.

"I'd want the films to stay on track for what the original three were planned to be," said Devlin. "I'd want to let the series stand on their own."

Stargate, a project that no one believed in – according to Devlin, has become an international sensation following successful SCI FI Channel series "SG-1" and "Atlantis." Devlin told attendees that watching what the "Stargate" phenomenon had become has been a great experience – likening it to a dream that had 'come to life, left his head, walked across the street, got married and had children.'

"You can't help but be proud of that," he said.

Flyboys opens on September 29.

Well I can't see why this is happening, Atlantis sucks... and I mean sucks. I hope a Canadian station picks up SG-1 seeing as its filmed in B.C.

MGM Greenlights New Stargate Movies
Source: MGM January 15, 2007

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) announced today the extension of the hit "Stargate SG-1" franchise with two movies based on the popular series. Titled "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" and "Stargate: Continuum", the movies will both be made available to the television universe and home entertainment marketplace by MGM. The announcement was made by Charles Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President, MGM.

"'Stargate SG-1' is to MGM Television what the 'James Bond,' 'Pink Panther' and the 'Rocky' franchises are to our feature film unit," said Cohen. "We are committed to continuing to release new SG-1 content and its 'Stargate Atlantis' spin-off, and we're also steadfast in our dedication to extending the franchise. 'Stargate' is an indelible brand for MGM and we will support it well into the future."

With its high quality production values, long-term stability in the show's leadership and strong chemistry between the lead actors in the series, all of whom have big audience appeal, "Stargate SG-1" is the longest-running science-fiction series in U.S. TV history. The series has a strong worldwide fan base and can be seen in over 120 countries. "Stargate SG-1" cast members Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black and Michael Shanks are confirmed to star in both movies. Written and produced by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, the new movies will feature the latest visual and sound effects, providing viewers with a theatrical movie-going experience.

In the first movie, "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" will bring a conclusion to the primary storyline of the past two seasons of the SG-1 television series. More thrills and action-packed scenes are planned for this special event movie, which will be directed by Cooper. The suspense will end as fans will see the conclusion of the epic Ori saga.

In the second movie, "Stargate: Continuum" the SG-1 team is now free to embark on new and exciting adventures throughout the endless Stargate universe.

Below are the synopses for the new "Stargate" movies:

"Stargate: The Ark of Truth"

As SG-1 searches for an Ancient artifact which they hope can defeat the armies of the Ori, they learn more Ori ships are about to be sent through the supergate to launch a final assault on Earth. Daniel discovers that the artifact, the Ark of Truth, may be in the Ori home galaxy, and SG-1 embarks aboard the Odyssey to find it, and pre-empt the attack. The IOA has a plan of their own and SG-1 ends up in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.

"Stargate: Continuum"

While SG-1 attends the execution of Ba'al, the last of the goa'uld system lords, Teal'c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter, Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what's happened, a fleet of goa'uld motherships arrives in orbit, led by Ba'al, his queen, Katesh, (Vala) and his first prime, Teal'c. SG-1 must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the goa'uld.

SG1 rules! It's a great show and I wish I had started watching it 10 years ago. The one good thing about picking up on it now is that I have over 200 episodes to watch, and I can see them in a short period of time. SciFi Network is blocking other networks from picking up SG1 since it won't allow any other network to broadcast SG1 in the US. Hopefully the dvds will do well and maybe the show will be return in the future. I wish Morena Baccarin were a cast member though.
